RAMPANT DISCRIMINATION

EXPOSED!

by

Russell Madden

A helpless segment of our society is being discriminated against in the most egregious ways. The callousness of the oppressors of these unfortunate citizens is too obvious to avoid any longer. Since it is pointless to expect those violating the rights of this minority ever to correct their abuses voluntarily, it is past time for the government to step in and correct these rampant injustices.

A partial list of the discrimination that runs unchecked against this segment of our population will suffice to indicate the severity of this problem.

Item:

This minority makes barely one cent for every dollar earned by those who wield power over them. Such a blatant disparity in earnings clearly illustrates the willful and deliberate discrimination that exists every day.

Solution:

The government must take immediate steps to correct this problem. This difference in wages is unconscionable. The oppressed deserve parity in pay. Immediately.

Item:

This minority is routinely and callously denied proper financial credit. The members are rejected out of hand by the banking industry for equality in the issuance of credit cards, car loans, and home mortgages.

Solution:

The government must require that big banking cease and desist this de facto redlining. Proportional representation for loans granted and access to vitally important credit must be mandated by law.

Item:

This minority is targeted by law enforcement personal whenever they engage in the simple act of driving upon the public highways. The incidence of police action against these frightened citizens is far higher than the percentage of the population represented by these "profiled" drivers.

Solution:

The national government must set up procedures for state and local jurisdictions to follow in documenting the number and frequency of such discriminatory stops. Any deviance from strict equality will result in the loss of federal highway funds for each year that the offending authorities are in violation of justice.

Item:

This minority finds it nearly impossible to find full-time employment. They are discriminated against in regard to the number of hours they can work, the amount of responsibility they can assume, and the wages they can earn.

Solution:

The government must carefully monitor the employment practices of potential offenders and work to eliminate even subtle discrimination. The informal "glass ceiling" that the "old boys" network uses to prevent these individuals from realizing their full potential must be shattered.

Item:

This minority is singled out for special monitoring whenever the members try to purchase products deemed "problematic" by the authorities.

Solution:

The government must immediately repeal its own discriminatory laws and regulations. All citizens must be treated equally. Fears of this minority "running amok" or assaulting other citizens when consuming certain controlled substances are grossly exaggerated and serve only to undermine the government's own credibility.

Item:

This minority is especially sensitive to incidents of environmental injustice and the poisons carelessly spread into the air, water, and ground by bottom-line oriented business owners.

Solution:

The government must not permit any potential business to establish a new facility in a neighborhood with a high percentage of minority residents. Environmental impact studies must be required. Even the slightest indication of adverse consequences against this minority must be taken as evidence of exploitation and serve as grounds for denial of new construction.

Item:

This minority is constantly bombarded by advertisers for products of, at best, questionable value. They cannot watch television, wander through a department store, or travel America's highways without being confronted by crass commercial appeals to their baser, material instincts.

Solution:

The government must prohibit the placement of any such propagandistic appeals from business that seek to separate these consumers from their pitiful incomes. The government cannot and must not permit these targeted enticements to the most vulnerable among us.

Item:

This minority fails to receive its fair share of state-sponsored recreational opportunities. Far too frequently, they must contend with substandard equipment and facilities in their pursuit of exercise and relaxation.

Solution:

The government must undertake a nation-wide program of establishing recreational equity. Since the members of this minority can rarely afford the types of entertainment opportunities of the powerful elite in our society, they must be afforded free and open access to new facilities in state-run parks and other such arenas. Physical health and exercise are vitally important in maintaining a citizenry's abilities to operate as fully functional human beings.

Item:

This minority too often makes poor nutritional choices due to lesser levels of achieved education. Obesity is a growing problem among the members. The food industry is heedless of the impact of their appeals and continues to push high calorie, high fat food choices upon this unfortunate minority.

Solution:

The government must prohibit the fast food and junk food companies from singling out these people. If necessary, special taxes must be imposed to discourage over-consumption of unhealthy food items. Failing this, outright bans of the offending items must be seriously considered.

Item:

This minority does not receive a fair and equitable share of the nation's economic resources. Their rich oppressors receive far more benefits than they deserve or can possibly use.

Solution:

The government must increase the marginal tax rates, close all tax loopholes, and otherwise ensure that the rich do not obtain improper advantage over this poor minority. Minimum incomes requirements, tax credits, the establishment of a national "living wage" for all citizens, and other means must be implemented to address the shameless distance separating the rich from the poor.

These examples should suffice to establish the extent and depth of this grave issue facing our nation. How long can we continue to permit such rampant discrimination to exist in what is supposed to be a free society? The evidence is incontrovertible that deliberate and systematic discrimination is imposed by the ruling elite in our country upon the most hapless and helpless segment of our populace.

The only explanation for the discrimination and disparities demonstrated here are the ageist attitudes of an adult majority that actively and intentionally seeks to maintain its power at the expense of the children whose lives the adults rule. Logic and morality are on our side. Justice must prevail.

Rise up, you oppressed! Demand your rights as human beings. Do not submit any longer to the mean-spirited and uncaring policies that have dominated your existences for far too long...
